Their most expansive and ambitious record so far, yet as acerbic, accurate and outspoken as ever, Sleaford Mods move hearts, minds and feet with new album The Demise Of Planet X.

Boasting Andrew Fearn and Jason Williamson’s most varied and expressive musical approach to date, the new record charts, critiques and satirises our times, while offering a universal cry of anger and a release of energy that pushes against the encroaching cultural darkness.

Fearn’s urgent electronics and Williamson’s machine gun diction ensures The Demise Of Planet X continues Sleaford Mods trademark bite, but the pair have allied depth, emotions and melodies to their uncompromising attack.

Not only does the album find the pair at the top of their songwriting powers, but they have incorporated an array of impressive guests to help deliver their vision.

In her first foray into music, actress Gwendoline Christie (Severance/Game Of Thrones) joins Midlands band Big Special on Sleaford Mods the kitchen-sink-drama-meets-mind-palace psychodrama The Good Life, while Nottingham singer-songwriter Liam Bailey adds a soulful lament to world-weary MAGA takedown ‘Flood The Zone’; grime rapper Snowy – also from the duo’s hometown – drops decisive bars on ‘The Kill List’s horror hip hop (its central imagery inspired by Ben Wheatley’s film of the same).

The inimitable Aldous Harding adds her unique, light-as-cloud guest vocals to ‘Elitest G.O.A.T.’ while Sleaford Mods have managed to tempt Sue Tompkins from the much-missed Life Without Building back into the studio to duet on No Touch. 

With the premise of The Demise Of Planet X asking what if the world ends not with a bang bit in a rising tide of mundanity, tracks including Don Draper, Shoving The Images, the reflective Bad Santa and the tender Gina Was grabble with a host of issues from global politics and social media degradation to bullying, childhood memories and personal angst.

“I don’t want to pat myself on the back while the rest of the world falls to shit, but we’re really happy with The Demise Of Planet X,” says Williamson of the album. “The music and ideas are really fresh and it’s in your face, but it pays to put your glasses on to look at the ingredients.”
